The Clorius Self-Acting Thermostats are mechanical temperature controllers designed to regulate heating and cooling systems without requiring electricity or compressed air. Working on the principle of liquid expansion, these thermostats automatically adjust a compatible Clorius control valve to maintain a stable process temperature. They are widely used in district heating, industrial process plants, marine systems, HVAC installations, and utility applications where reliability and energy efficiency are essential.

The liquid-filled sensing system reacts quickly to temperature changes, providing stable and precise control. Depending on the thermostat model, the neutral (dead) band ranges from 1.5°C to 2.5°C, allowing excellent control performance for industrial processes.

Operating Principle

The thermostat consists of:

  • Temperature sensor
  • Liquid-filled capillary tube
  • Adjustment cylinder

As the sensor temperature increases, the liquid expands and generates a mechanical force that moves the valve stem, reducing or increasing the flow of the heating or cooling medium. This closed-loop mechanical system continuously maintains the desired temperature without electronic controls.
