Description
Crane Fluid Systems Gate Valves
Reliable Gate Valves for HVAC, Plumbing, Water Distribution & Industrial Applications
Crane Fluid Systems Gate Valves are designed as dependable isolation valves for applications where low pressure drop and unrestricted flow are important. The straight-through flow path of a gate valve provides very low resistance when the valve is fully open, making this valve type particularly suitable for water distribution, heating, plumbing and industrial piping systems.
The Crane range covers a wide selection of bronze, brass, cast iron and ductile iron gate valves, as well as higher-pressure cast steel gate valves. Available pressure ratings range from PN6 to PN32, together with ANSI Class 100, 125, 150 and 300 options. The product range extends from compact 1/4″ valves to 24″ valves.

What Is a Gate Valve?
A gate valve uses a gate-like disc that moves vertically, perpendicular to the direction of flow. Turning the handwheel moves the stem and raises or lowers the gate against the valve seats.
When fully open, the gate is lifted completely out of the flow path, creating a relatively unrestricted passage and minimizing pressure loss.
Crane specifically describes its gate valves as efficient stop valves for flow in either direction, particularly where minimum pressure drop is important.
Important: Gate valves are primarily intended for isolation, not throttling. Crane does not recommend using them for flow regulation because the resulting flow characteristic and erosion can damage the valve and prevent effective shut-off.
Crane Gate Valve Range
The Crane Fluid Systems gate-valve portfolio contains 23 products, covering different materials, pressure ratings, connection standards and applications.

Bronze Gate Valves
Crane offers a particularly broad selection of bronze gate valves for smaller pipe sizes.
Models such as D151, D151X, D159, D166, D180 and D235 provide different combinations of pressure rating and threaded connection.
For example, the D151 is a PN20 bronze gate valve available from 1/4″ to 4″, with tapered threaded connections to BS EN 10226-2 (ISO 7-1). It is also listed as WRAS approved and carries the BSI Kitemark.
The D162 provides an alternative for projects using American flange standards. It is a Class 150 bronze gate valve, available from 3/4″ to 3″, with ANSI B16.24 Class 150 flanged connections.
Brass Gate Valves
The D156 is a brass gate valve designed for smaller-diameter applications.
It covers:
- Size: 1/4″–4″
- Pressure rating: PN16
- Material: Brass
- Connection: Taper threaded to BS EN 10226-2 (ISO 7-1)
This provides an economical option for suitable plumbing and building-services applications.
Cast Iron Gate Valves
Crane’s cast iron range includes:
- F53
- F58
- F84
- FM52
- FM57
- FM63
These valves cover a broad range of pressure ratings and connection standards.
The FM63, for example, is a PN16 cast iron gate valve available from 65 mm to 300 mm, with flanged connections according to BS EN 1092-2 PN16.
The cast iron range is particularly suitable for larger building-services and water-distribution pipework.
Ductile Iron Gate Valves
For applications requiring a robust gate valve for larger water systems, Crane offers the FM82 and FM124 / FM125ranges.
FM82
The FM82 is a PN16 ductile iron gate valve covering 65–300 mm, with flanged connections according to BS EN 1092-2 PN16.
FM124 / FM125
The FM124 / FM125 is a Resilient Seated Gate Valve (RSGV) manufactured from ductile iron.
Key characteristics include:
- Size: 50–300 mm
- Pressure rating: PN16
- Flanged connection
- BS EN 1092-2
- WRAS approved
This makes the FM124/FM125 particularly suitable for water and public-health applications where resilient seating and approved potable-water components are required.
Cast Steel Gate Valves
For higher-pressure industrial applications, Crane provides the 33XU-F and 47XU-F cast steel gate valves.
47XU-F
The 47XU-F is a Class 150 cast steel gate valve available from 2″ to 24″.
Crane identifies several features including:
- Carbon steel construction
- Class 150 pressure rating
- Flanged ends
- Outside screw and yoke
- Flexible wedge disc
- Seat rings seal welded to eliminate leak paths
The flexible wedge design helps compensate for deformation of the valve body caused by pipe stresses.
33XU-F
The 33XU-F extends the range to Class 300, with sizes from 2″ to 12″.
These valves are therefore appropriate where higher pressure ratings and more demanding industrial service conditions require a cast steel gate valve.
