Description
Crane F646L / F641L / F656L / F651L / F676L / F671L Butterfly Valves
Semi-Lugged Wafer Pattern Lever Operated Butterfly Valves – Ductile Iron
The Crane Fluid Systems F646L / F641L / F656L / F651L / F676L / F671L series is a range of semi-lugged wafer pattern, lever-operated butterfly valves designed for quarter-turn isolation in water, HVAC, heating, cooling and general building-services applications.
The valves are available from 50 mm to 200 mm and have a PN16 / ANSI Class 125 pressure rating. Their universal pattern allows compatibility with both BS EN 1092-2 PN16 and ANSI B16.1 Class 125 flanges. The valve body is made from ductile iron, with different disc and seat-liner material combinations available for different service conditions.

Semi-Lugged Wafer Pattern Design
The F646L series combines the compact installation advantages of a wafer-style butterfly valve with a semi-lugged body configuration.
The universal pattern allows the valve to be installed with either BS EN 1092-2 PN16 or ANSI B16.1 Class 125 flanges. This makes the series particularly useful for projects where different flange standards may be encountered.
The compact wafer configuration also helps reduce installation space and valve weight compared with many conventional flanged isolation valves.
Lever Operation
The F646L family uses a manual lever actuator for quarter-turn operation.
The lever provides straightforward manual opening and closing and is suitable for applications where frequent automatic modulation is not required.
The valve can therefore be used as a practical isolation valve for:
- HVAC pipework
- Chilled-water systems
- Heating-water systems
- Cooling-water systems
- Water distribution
- Mechanical plant rooms
- Building-services pipework
Crane Fluid Systems describes its butterfly-valve range as quarter-turn isolation valves supplied in wafer or lugged configurations with lever or gearbox operation.
Multiple Disc Material Options
One of the main advantages of this product family is the availability of different disc materials.
The range includes:
Ductile Iron Disc
Used in the F646L / F641L configurations.
Stainless Steel Disc
Used in the F656L / F651L configurations.
Aluminium Bronze Disc
Used in the F676L / F671L configurations.
This provides flexibility when selecting the valve for different water qualities, corrosion conditions and service requirements.
EPDM and Nitrile Seat Liners
The F646L family is available with two principal liner options:
| Model | Disc | Liner |
|---|---|---|
| F646L | Ductile Iron | EPDM |
| F641L | Ductile Iron | Nitrile |
| F656L | Stainless Steel | EPDM |
| F651L | Stainless Steel | Nitrile |
| F676L | Aluminium Bronze | EPDM |
| F671L | Aluminium Bronze | Nitrile |
The manufacturer documentation identifies EPDM and nitrile as the available seat-liner options. The appropriate configuration should be selected according to the actual medium and operating conditions.
420 Stainless Steel Shaft
The valves use 420 stainless steel shafts, selected for high mechanical strength.
This provides reliable torque transmission during manual quarter-turn operation and supports the mechanical durability of the valve assembly.
Ductile Iron Valve Body
The valve body is manufactured from ductile iron EN-GJS-400-15 according to the available Crane technical documentation.
The ductile iron construction provides a robust solution for building-services and water applications while maintaining a compact butterfly-valve design.
Typical Applications
The Crane F646L / F641L / F656L / F651L / F676L / F671L series is suitable for a wide range of applications, including:
- HVAC systems
- Chilled-water systems
- Heating-water systems
- Cooling-water systems
- Commercial buildings
- Industrial water systems
- Water distribution
- Pumping systems
- Mechanical plant rooms
- General building services
- Utility water systems
For applications involving aggressive fluids, high temperatures or special media, the disc and liner materials should be selected based on the actual operating conditions.
